Yasmin Williams is an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist with an unorthodox, modern style of playing. Her music has been commonly described as refreshing, relaxing, and unique and has been called some of the most imaginative guitar music out today. She utilizes various techniques including alternate tunings, percussive hits, and lap tapping in her music to great effect. She has won various local talent shows, was a finalist in the Rolling Stones Young Gun guitar competition, was the Grand prize winner of New York University's Ultra Violet Live talent show, and won the Gold Prize in the Instrumental category of the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. She has been featured on several radio and television programs including New Sounds Soundcheck Podcast, NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday show, NPR Night Owl, NPR All Songs Considered, Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, and WUSA9, along with high profile magazine features such as Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Vintage Guitar Magazine
b. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Williams began playing tenor saxophone while still very young and played in the Martin Luther King Jazz Ensemble at King High School in her home-town. In her teens she was already leading her own band, playing local clubs and building a wide-ranging repertoire that encompassed jazz, Latin, R&B and hip-hop. When she was 20 she began touring with Patti LaBelle, an engagement that lasted almost six years. In 1996 Williams’ recording of ‘Secret Garden’, a single from Saxtress, which featured singers Teena Marie and LaBelle, spent four months on the Billboard Top 25. Williams has also worked with Prince and has made videos with Barry White.
An immensely talented player, Williams has built an enviable following among a younger generation of listeners and has created a satisfying blend of smooth jazz and contemporary pop.
American history is blood-stained with the dehumanization of entire communities. Casting her own harrowing spell, singer-songwriter Sarah Peacock draws parallels between current events and the 1692 Salem Witch Trials with the title song to her new record, Burn the Witch (March 27, 2020). Finger-picking guitar work cleanses the throat as her voice swells to mimic the havoc strewn through time, as well as present-day strife along our southern border. Such raw intensity boils over onto the rest of the 11-track record, and while her style is not easily defined, her storytelling prowess is irrefutably potent and unnerving.
“Hopefully, this song inspires people to take a look at what’s happening in our world today and how we abuse people,” she says of the song, which is delivered as a “catalyst for hope.”
Peacock has a bedeviling way about her, particularly in the way she harvests such influences as Brandi Carlile and Heart. She even filters heavy metal band Metallica through a rootsy, acoustic lens to emerge with a silky, sticky musical web of her very own. “Keep Quiet” slithers from her bones in a similar sinister fashion, twisting her lyrical mechanisms even tighter, while “Mojave” flourishes with a vibrantly polished hook. Her voice always rises to the occasion -- switching between various styles as effortlessly as a chameleon.
Be Steadwell
(They, She, He, Be)
is a queer pop composer and storyteller from Washington DC. Be composes songs on stage using looping, vocal layering and beat boxing. Be's original music features earnest lyricism, and affirming queer content. Be's goal as a musician is to make other black girlies, introverts and weirdos feel seen and loved.
Three of the hottest vocalist in the Washington, D.C. area joined together to form a Disco group like you've never seen! These dynamic divas just so happen to be sisters! Their show consists of sensational dance moves while singing some of the best songs from the 70's and early 80's Disco era. This high energy Disco trio is the perfect act to set your party off with a bang!
Their act can be accompanied by musical tracks or a live band. The Gem's also incorporate some of todays music hits to their repertoire, giving your party a little bit of everything.
Vicci writes, sings and plays guitar with the touch of a veteran performer. Her live performances have received critical acclaim throughout the Northwest.
Martinez's inspiration comes from family as well as from musical figures like Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, and Dave Matthews and recent explorations of Van Morrison's hallowed catalog.
Vicci is as comfortable playing an intimate solo gig to headlining festivals and she has either opened for or shared the bill with artists ranging from Sting, Annie Lennox, Jonny Lang, Brandi Carlile, soul man, Syl Johnson to blues legend BB King. Vicci is a contestant on the NBC hit TV show, The Voice, which stars Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Carson Daly, and is a finalist on Team Cee Lo.
Jessica Kirson is a powerhouse on stage. She’s a hilariously relatable performer of sheer silliness, vulnerability, and ridiculous characters. Her countless comedic character videos have racked up over 200 million views on social media. Her audience is multigenerational, creating an excuse for large groups of friends and families to spend a night out together. In an era where only 10% of all touring comedians are female, Jessica stands out as one of the strongest comedians regardless of gender.
